The Initial Moment of Having Communion in the Mouth... 😲

Haha yes folks, it's my first time to take holy communion in the mouth. And wow, I never thought it would be like this. Haha. I mean, it's the first time I did not ask to have the Eucharist put in my hand.

As far as I can remember I always take communion in my hand then I place it in my mouth. Not sure about my first communion since I've already forgotten about that and it wasn't monumental for me at all. Blame it on being lukewarm in the faith even as a kid. 😅

Let me just tell you what happened today. 😆

Today is the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord in the temple

There were many people at church today, I was so happy to see fuller pews. Haha. Well it is a First Friday too so there's that. I know there's a devotion to that as well. (During high school we used to go to mass every First Friday without fail. Catholic schools ftw! However they didn't teach us about the devotion. 😆)

Actually there was also a blessing of candles beforehand but I didn't think of bringing any. Awww... Plenty of people brought theirs so I thought I could've done the same.

I know I should have brought or bought some candles but my former lukewarm self is still somewhat around. 😅 Oh boy... a blessed candle would have been a welcome addition to our home. I still don't have any holy water so holy candles would have been great but there it is, I missed the opportunity.

Despite that I am still happy to have gone to the 6 pm mass today. Actually there was a First Friday Holy Hour in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus beforehand but I wasn't able to attend. I don't think I've ever joined one before so maybe next time I will try.

That Holy Communion moment

Okay so I just wanna share. Haha. As mentioned I've never been one to take communion on the tongue. Like, nobody ever told me it's a requirement or something. My lukewarm Catholic self was just not caring about such things that much.

Heck, I didn't even know one had to be in a state of grace (confessed mortal sins) before taking communion. (1 Corinthians 11:27-29) I only learned about it last year. That was how ignorant I was of the right Catholic practices for so many years!

Also, did you know, the hands of priests are consecrated? And so they are the only ones really worthy to hold the body of Christ! It is said that it has been the practice since the time of Jesus to receive through the mouth and not on the hand. Thus traditionalists prefer to have communion on the tongue to give utmost respect to the Holy Eucharist.

Well... I say, first make sure to examine your conscience then confess sins frequently before even considering such ideas. Get your interior Christian life in order first before going down to the nitty gritty or tiniest Catholic details.

Eating the body of Christ when you have unconfessed mortal and/or grave sins is a sin in itself! So make sure to regularly go to confession first, then you can consider the traditional option of communion on the tongue afterwards.

So lately I have been feeling like I should only take communion via tongue since I learned about it last month. For several Sundays I tried to do it but always ended up with my open hands in front of the priest. Huh... must be the first time jitters. 😆

Anyway, today was the day! haha. By hook or by crook I was gonna take communion on the tongue! I was thinking of how I should do it... It is said one should kneel or bow down before taking communion. Well I opted for the bow and then I replied, "Amen." I opened my mouth to receive the Lord and voila! It is done! 😅

Well... that was... fast. 😆 I mean, omg I never thought it's as easy as that. I was thinking of all sorts of things I should do beforehand, like put my tongue out and incline my head but none of that happened! 😂 I just realized after opening my mouth the body of Christ was in my mouth in a jiffy! 😲 Oh my. 😆

I was chuckling to myself as I walked back to my seat. Omg haha. I never thought it would be so easy and fast. Like, I thought the priest would need to press it on the tongue or something. Little did I know it can be... popped in the mouth like a pill? I dunno... 🤔 Of course I didn't see how it all happened but I just suddenly had the Eucharist in my mouth. I find it kinda funny I was worrying over nothing. 😆

And so... I think it's way better to do such from now on. If it's that easy then I don't need to take the body of Christ in my hands anymore. All the "unnecessary actions" when I can just have it straight in my mouth. Oh wow. Haha.

How about you, do you remember your first communion experience? Do you usually take it on the tongue or hand? Care to share your thoughts? 😁
